M&S may slash 1,000 jobs in UK
02/04/2004 - 11:25:28Marks & Spencer today warned up to 1,000 jobs in the UK could go following a review of its UK head office and financial services operations.
The high street giant said preliminary findings from the review suggested that 500 jobs would be lost in the 2004/05 financial year with another 500 posts at risk in the following 12 months.
M&S employs around 5,000 people in head office and financial services work - at Baker Street, London, Stockley Park near Heathrow, Salford Quays in Manchester and at Chester, where 1,500 staff work in financial services.
In-store staff numbers will not be affected by the review.
