CSO figs show construction earnings rise in 2003

The average weekly earnings for clerical and operative workers in the construction industry increased 1.7% to €675.37, on the twelve months between September 2002 and 2003.

Figures released from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) today say that there was an increase of 3.9% in the hourly rate paid to all grades, from €14.71 to €15.29.

The CSO said that the number of hours worked per week decreased by 2.2% to 44.2 hours.

Skilled operatives saw their weekly earnings decrease by 2.6% from to €773.99 over the same period.

The hourly rate rose from €17.63 to €17.65 and the number of hours worked fell just over one hour to 43.9.

Weekly earnings for adult unskilled workers were up 3.8% to €667.93 between September 2002 and the same month in 2003.

The hourly rate moved up to €14.41 from €13.56 and the number of hours worked each week also decreased by one hour to 46.3 hours.
