James in doubt for City

18/03/2004 - 14:47:23
Manchester City manager Kevin Keegan has revealed goalkeeper David James is a doubt for Monday’s televised trip to Leeds.

The England international sustained a nasty gash on his knee in a collision with Ruud van Nistelrooy during Sunday’s brilliant 4-1 triumph over Manchester United.

Because the wound was in such an awkward position, the City medical staff struggled to stitch it, leaving Keegan to hope the cut has not become infected.

“It is a bit of a worry,” Keegan told www.mcfc.co.uk.

“He should be okay providing he does not get an infection but it is a pretty nasty cut.”

Keegan expects midfield duo Claudio Reyna and Steve McManaman to be available for the trip to Elland Road as City look to record back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

Both men came off at half-time at the City of Manchester Stadium, Reyna with an ankle injury and McManaman with a calf strain.

Neither man trained yesterday but Keegan is not too concerned.

“I am pretty sure both will be available for Leeds,” he said.

“Steve McManaman had a scan yesterday just to make sure he is okay, while Claudio could train tomorrow.”
