CSO reports 3.7% increase in overseas visits

The Central Statistics Office has reported a 3.7% increase in the number of overseas trips to Ireland in the 12 months to the end of January this year.

The CSO said 347,300 overseas trips to Ireland were undertaken in January 2004, compared to 334,800 in January 2003.

It said the number of visits by British residents remained unchanged during the 12-month period, but the number of trips by other Europeans increased by 9%.

The number of visits by North American residents also increased by 5.7%.

The CSO said Irish residents made 332,800 overseas trips in January, an increase of 13.3% on the figure for the same month last year.
