Aer Rianta meet to consider SIPTU action
A meeting of the Board of Aer Rianta took place today following the decision of SIPTU to take industrial action next Thursday and on the 2, 20 and 26 of April.
In a statement Aer Rianta said: "The Board is very seriously concerned about the impact of the proposed work stoppages on the travelling public and on the airports’ customers."
Aer Rianta said that the board has reviewed the contingency arrangements being put in place by management which seek to deal with the consequences of the strikes, and that these plans will be monitored on a continuing basis over the coming days.
The Department of Transport has been in discussions for some time with the trade unions on a number of issues arising from the Government decision to restructure Aer Rianta, including the issue of security of employment.
Aer Rianta today called on the Minister for Transport, Seamus Brennan, and the trade unions to explore every possible avenue for progressing these discussions in order to avoid the work stoppages .
"In the company’s view, further meaningful progress in these talks is crucial to averting the industrial action on next Thursday and subsequent dates", Aer Rianta added.
