Beef Or Salmon will work after racing at Limerick on Thursday as he continues his build up to a repeat crack at the Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The eight-year-old was a third-fence faller is last year’s blue riband and has been pleasing connections in his preparation for the March 18 event.

“Beef Or Salmon has come out well from Thurles and all being well he works again this week,” said trainer Michael Hourigan.

“At present there is no sign of the muscle injury which hindered him earlier in the season and he is still an intended runner in the Gold Cup.”

The chestnut gelding has not raced since finishing third to Best Mate in the Ericsson Chase in December, and was ruled out of the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup with a back problem.

“The most important thing is just to keep him sound for the next couple of weeks,” added Hourigan.

Beef Or Salmon is a general 14-1 to turn the tables on Best Mate and bask in Gold Cup glory.
