Cabinet to discuss electronic voting
24/02/2004 - 07:52:52The cabinet is expected to discuss the growing controversy over electronic voting when it meets in Dublin later today.
Environment Minister Martin Cullen is expected to present a number of proposals aimed at allaying public fears about the system.
However, his suggestions are not expected to include the possibility of the electronic voting machines printing out a paper record of each ballot.
Earlier this month, the Government defeated an opposition motion in the Dáil calling for electronic voting to be deferred until an independent electoral commission had been established to oversee it.
