Ahern welcomes UDA ceasefire extension
24/02/2004 - 16:07:20The Taoiseach has welcomed the extension to the UDA ceasefire.
The UDA said despite recent difficulties, it would be extending its cessation of violence, and is pledging to work towards a peaceful Northern Ireland.
Bertie Ahern believes the statement represents an important commitment to the achievement of a political settlement that can be supported by all communities in the North.
He has also said it is significant that the UDA and UFF wish to develop relationships with the nationalist community based on mutual respect and equity.
