No 'congestion charge' for Dublin until at least 2009
11/01/2004 - 09:07:22Dublin motorists are to be spared a congestion charge, for now at least.
Minister for Transport Seamus Brennan has said that there would be no consideration of such a charge until adequate public transport is in place.
The Automobile Association says the Minister assured them that there will be no London-style charge to enter Dublin city centre before the port tunnel, Luas and the Metro are operational.
It means Dublin motorists will not be paying congestion charges until 2009 at the earliest, when a Metro would be built if construction begins soon.
