McDowell 'delaying' Garda ombudsman appointment: Rabbitte
09/01/2004 - 12:56:56Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte has called on Justice Minister Michael McDowell to "stop delaying" the appointment of a Garda Ombudsman.
Mr Rabbitte was responding to a television documentary last night that outlined a litany of assault, perjury and abuse of power allegations against the Gardaí.
Mr McDowell has promised to establish an independent body to investigate allegations against members of the Force, but Mr Rabbitte said today that no money has been allocated for the establishment of that body.
