UCI Ireland turnover is up
09/01/2004 - 08:54:00Turnover at the Irish operations of cinema chain UCI was up €21.5m for the year to December 2002, from €19m the previous year.
Pre-tax profits at the business rose to 7.2% to €4.87m, according to reports.
The biggest box office hit in Ireland in 2002 was Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, followed by The Lord Of The Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring, which opened in the last week of 2001.
UCI operates multiplex cinemas in the Dublin suburbs of Blanchardstown, Coolock and Tallaght. The company employs more than 130 staff.
UCI is a partnership between Universal and Paramount Pictures and also has cinemas in the UK, Austria, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Poland, Japan, Taiwan and Brazil.
The group employs 2,700 people worldwide.
