Dunphy Show dropped before end of first season
TV3's first flagship chat programme has flopped before the end of its first season.
Recent viewing figures show The Dunphy Show was watched by just 100,000 viewers.
That compares with six to seven times that number tuning in every Friday night at the same time to see RTÉ’s Late Late Show.
This is the second time that TV3 has gone head-to-head with a high profile show and failed.
Soon after it’s launch, TV3 was forced to reschedule its flagship 6pm news programme to 5.30pm as it failed to match RTÉ’s Six One for viewership.
This latest development would appear to vindicate former Late Late host Gay Byrne who was severely criticised by Eamon Dunphy for questioning the wisdom of putting The Dunphy Show directly against the Late Late on the basis that the TV audience and share of the advertising cake was too small for the shows to be broadcast on the same night.
