McCreevy accused of ignoring the poor

The Labour party is accusing Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy of ignoring the needs of the poorest in our society.

Reacting to social welfare cuts announced by Minister Mary Coughlan during the week, the party claims thousands of families will suffer poverty.

Deputy Willie Penrose, Labour's spokesperson on social and family affairs, said Mr McCreevy has a history of taking money out of the welfare kitty.
