FG want free Xmas shuttle bus in Dublin
16/11/2003 - 12:45:50Fine Gael has called on Dublin City Council to provide a free shuttle bus service into Dublin's city centre in the run up to Christmas.
Senator Brian Hayes says the ongoing policy of restricting the access of private cars into the centre needs to be accompanied by improved public transport.
He is suggesting that the cost of a free shuttle service should be provided by Dublin City Council from the increasing rates bill.
"There is a need for more integration between both transportation systems in this city and I think this would make perfect sense in the run up to Christmas at a very strong peak shopping time," Sen. Hayes said.
"I think Dublin City Council should actually provide funding for this service given the hit that many city traders have taken in recent months”
