Irish U20 squad lose another player
Republic of Ireland manager Gerry Smith has lost another member of his 20-player squad for the World Youth Championship finals in the United Arab Emirates at the end of the month.
Adrian Deane (Charlton Athletic) has joined Newcastle United’s Stephen Brennan on the injured list and is out of the panel.
Smith lost Brennan yesterday with a thigh complaint and today Deane was forced to pull out having damaged a medial ligament in his leg when playing for Charlton against Chelsea last night.
Smith has called up Bray Wanderers’ Eamonn Zayed to take Deane’s place. The Irish manager stresses that with his assistant manager John McDonnell they are still taking time on a replacement for Stephen Brennan.
“We have not made up our minds on who we will bring in for Stephen. We are prepared to give it a few more days’ consideration. Eamon Zayed is coming into the squad as a direct replacement for Adrian Deane,” says Smith.
