Privatisation benefits bus owners, not commuters says SIPTU
SIPTU has criticised the reaction of Transport Minister Seamus Brennan's response to British bus company First Groups plc decision to take over Aircoach last week.
National organiser Noel Dowling said that it appears that the owners of any Irish company that can secure licences on a few routes can then make a financial killing by selling a controlling interest to overseas transport giants such as First Group.
Dowling also poured scorn on Brennan's decision to break-up Aer Rianta, the delays in the operation of Luas and the indecision over the port tunnel.
"Instead of resourcing successful operations such as Quality Bus Corridors, the Minister has presided over LUAS, which is costing more than €28m a kilometre to build, compared with €400,000 per kilometre of bus corridors," he said.
