Two teenage girls killed in Co Clare road accident

Two teenage friends were killed and three others seriously injured in a car crash in Co Clare last night.

The girls, aged 13 and 16, were passengers in an Opel Cadet that hit a wall in the seaside village of Carrigaholt, in the west of the county, at about 8.30pm.

Three teenage boys, including the driver, were injured, and taken to Ennis General Hospital for treatment. No other car is thought to have been involved.

One of the boys injured is believed to be a brother of one of the girls killed.

Units of the fire brigade from Kilrush and Kilkee, along with ambulances from Kilrush and Ennis, attended the scene. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
