Springbok Santon in injury scare

07/10/2003 - 09:15:02
The Springbok rugby team management are not considering calling for a replacement for injured hooker Dale Santon unless his groin problem worsens.

The 34-year-old injured his groin about 40 minutes into the Boks’ practice session at the Dockers Stadium on Monday while preparing to execute a tackle.

An ice-pack was applied to the injury after an initial examination by team doctor Uli Schmidt.

After the Bok squad returned to their hotel, Schmidt indicated that the injury was not serious and coach Rudolf Straeuli said he would follow Schmidt’s advice on whether to call for a replacement for Santon.

Should Santon not be able to take any further part in the World Cup tournament, Natal’s Lukas van Biljon could get the nod as replacement.
