Redknapp to face FA charge
Harry Redknapp will be looking for his previous good record will help him escape a touchline ban when he answers a Football Association charge of improper conduct tomorrow.
And recent precedent should encourage the Portsmouth manager who was sent off for making remarks to a fourth official about referee Andy D’Urso during Pompey’s goalless draw at Wolves on August 30.
Redknapp is accused of using “abusive or insulting words to a match official” after being sent from the dug-out by Essex referee D’Urso who booked eight players in the game – five of them from Portsmouth.
But yesterday Hull City’s manager Peter Taylor, the former Leicester City, Brighton and one-time England boss, was fined just £250 (€354) and warned as to his future contract over similar charge arising from a pre-season friendly match.
Brian Talbot, manager of Second Division Rushden & Diamonds had his FA hearing adjourned having been charged with also using abusive or insulting language to a match official in a pre-season game.
And John Gregory, former Aston Villa and Derby manager, is still waiting to hear the verdict on his case which was raised following an incident in Derby’s match at Portsmouth on February 8.
Gregory is also charged with using abusive words to a match official.
