Exports fall slightly in August

There was a slight decrease in the value of exports to non-EU countries for the month of August.

Exports fell by 1% to €2,443m from July’s figure of €2,473m.

The first six months of 2003 saw exports drop 7% overall with the value of computer components and organic chemicals being the main contributors to the decline.

Exports to Japan and Switzerland fell by 26% and 19% respectively while exports to Mexico were up by 31% to €402m.

Imports from the USA fell 25%, Hong Kong was down 28% while imports from China rose 66%.
