Ericsson expects to return to profit - Svanberg

07/10/2003 - 10:57:51
Ericsson AB chief executive Carl-Henric Svanberg has said that he expects the company to return to profit soon.

Svanberg would not predict whether the turnaround would occur as soon as the third quarter.

In an interview with the Financial Times he discussed the huge opportunity for Ericsson in China and India.

He said the company will be at the forefront of the industry's drive to add another billion mobile phone subscribers over the next few years.

He also dismissed suggestions that local competitors are starting to erode Ericsson's position in those markets.

Another area for growth will arise in what he described as the services layer - as multimedia, video-streaming and other 3G services take off.

Services for operators (e.g. network management and integration) will be increasingly important to the group,

The company is also to place more emphasis on business customers, as well as its traditional clients.

The new focus on enterprises and multimedia is to be mirrored at Nokia, which has announced a restructuring that will highlight both business areas.
