Furyk moves in front

03/08/2003 - 08:55:53
Jim Furyk fired a seven-under-par 65 to vault into the lead after the third round of the Buick Open.
Furyk began the third round tied for fourth place with Tiger Woods.

The US Open champion carded the best round of the day to hurdle a handful of players, including second-round leader Chris DiMarco.

At 17-under 199, Furyk is one shot better than Carl Paulson and four better than Woods, the defending champion of this event who could not build on the momentum of an early eagle.

Paulson also shot 65 and is one stroke in front of Neal Lancaster, who fired a 66.

Red-hot Kenny Perry signed for a 66 and is among a quartet at 14-under 202.

Woods had a three-under 69 that included a pair of shaky drives.

The world’s top-ranked player is tied with Briny Baird (65) and Woody Austin (68) at 203 as he seeks his fifth title of the year.
