03/07/2003 - 06:19:50
Police in Northern Ireland came under petrol bomb attack early today as they attended the scene of disturbances in Derry.

At least 12 devices were thrown at officers as they responded to earlier petrol bomb attacks on homes in the mainly loyalist Fountain Estate.

There were no reports of any injuries although damage was caused to garden furniture in the earlier attacks.

Meanwhile police were also called out to deal with sectarian disturbances in the Cavehill and Westland Road areas of north Belfast.

A spokesman said a number of homes in the area had been attacked with stones and petrol bombs.
