Govt to push legislation through

03/07/2003 - 08:55:35
The Government is expected to rush nine pieces of legislation through the Dáil without debate today before beginning its three-month recess.

By the close of business today, a total of 37 bills will have been passed since the current Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition retained power a year ago.

These bills included controversial amendments to the Freedom of Information Act and legislation ensuring major sporting events would be available on free-to-air television.

After today's business, the Dáil will not sit again until September 30.
