FG call for 'fast food reform'

03/07/2003 - 12:24:20
Fine Gael has made a call for Government action on obesity at a seminar on "fast food reform".

Speaking at the seminar on 'fast food reform', Fine Gael's food spokesman Timmins pointed out that since 1990 the prevalence of obesity in Ireland has increased by 67%.

In Western countries up to 8% of healthcare costs are due to obesity.

"If we are serious about tackling the huge problems associated with a population that is growing more obese each year we need to address the root causes of the problem," said Deputy Timmins.
