Landlords opposing new laws

The Irish Property Owners Association is criticising proposed new laws that give tenants security of tenure for four years after six months renting a property.

Rents must be set on the basis of the open market rate and cannot be changed more than once a year.

The Residential Tenancies Bill also makes it mandatory for landlords to register with the newly-established tenancy board, which will also be the mechanism for resolving disputes.
