LUAS chaos predicted as Dublin 'black spots' identified

01/06/2003 - 12:08:04
The full extent of the disruption expected to be caused by the LUAS has been outlined in today's Sunday Business Post which has identified several major potential "black spots" at various junctions throughout Dublin.

The LUAS will have priority over all other forms of traffic, resulting in some of Dublin's busiest roads being reduced to single-lane traffic.

The report says trams from Abbey Street will bring all traffic on O'Connell Street to a standstill every two and a half minutes.

It also claims that the fifty million Dublin Bus passengers who travel down O'Connell Street each year will have their journeys interrupted by the trams even though the LUAS will only carry one fifth as many passengers.

Key Quality Bus Corridors from Lucan, Blanchardstown, Clondalkin and Malahide will also be forced to merge back into mainstream traffic to make space for the trams.
