Greens seek increased tenants' rights

The Green Party are calling for more rights for residential tenants.

The call comes following the publication of the Residential Tenancies Bill on Friday.

The Greens Environment spokesman Ciaran Cuffe says the bill does not go far enough to tackle exorbitant rent increases.

He insists there are loopholes in the bill whereby landlords can get rid of tenants.

Mr Cuffe says there should be one month's notice for every five months rental period for tenants. In addition, rent increases should be capped to a maximum 5%.
