FG want tougher drink laws
28/05/2003 - 16:50:07Fine Gael will only support the Government's new alcohol legislation if the Government makes further changes, it was revealed today.
Fine Gael justice spokesman John Deasy, said today Fine Gael will help expedite legislation to tackle alcohol abuse if Justice Minister Michael McDowell includes a ban on drinks advertising and reverts to previous pub closing hours on Friday and Saturday.
"We indicated a willingness to support any sensible measures brought forward by the Government, however as it stands Minister McDowell's proposal will do nothing more than scratch the surface of this enormous problem," claimed Deputy Deasy.
