Environment agency says Ireland must clean up its act

The EU's environmental agency says gains made in cleaning up Europe's environment are likely to be wiped out in the coming years, because of the massive pollution an economic recovery will bring.

Ireland is judged to be one of Europe's biggest offenders in this area, producing double the amount of greenhouse gases allowed under the Kyoto protocol.

Jeff Huntington of the European environmental agency says the state has a lot to do clean up its act.
