Cricketer Phil Tufnell ate a live beetle, a handful of red ants, meal worms and a moth pupa today, to successfully complete a Bushtucker Trial as he, Linda Barker and John Fashanu battled it out on the final day of I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!
Returning to the camp at 1.40am today Irish time (10.40am in the Australian jungle), Phil told designer Linda and ex-footballer Fash: “That was probably the most disgusting thing I’ve ever had to do in my life.”
He successfully downed five dishes to complete his part of the final day’s trial, in which all three contestants have to face their own challenge ahead of tonight’s vote by the public to determine the winner.
“That was rank,” he said afterwards. “That was filth. I’m surprised I didn’t throw.”
Phil said he had to eat a beetle, a handful of red ants, a moth pupa and meal worms, all of which were alive.
After downing all five plates, and so winning three fully-prepared portions of one course of a three-course meal, Phil said he was given a pint of lager. “I just necked it,” he said.
Linda returned from her trial a couple of hours later, saying she had scored four out of five and so earned three uncooked portions of another course.
She said she had to transfer five slippery eels from one tank to another but only managed four within the 90-second time limit.
Fash was the final one to be called for his trial.
Dancer Wayne Sleep was evicted last night after 14 days in the jungle.
The 54-year-old told presenters Ant and Dec: “It’s grim in there. It’s very intense. You have to be really careful what you say to each other.
“It’s a mind game. You have to hold on not to upset people if they’re tired.
“Everybody wakes up differently every day and you have to latch on to their moods and mine.”
Phil yesterday appeared to be getting close to fellow contestant Linda, the only woman left in the jungle.
Sitting by the campfire he told her: “You’re the queen of the jungle. You’re the only girl left here.
“You’ve seen them all off. That in my eyes means you’re the queen.”
