McGuinness: Unionists never wanted to 'fight' elections
04/05/2003 - 15:44:13Sinn Fein's chief negotiator Martin McGuinness says unionists never had any intention of contesting elections in the North.
Speaking in Belfast this afternoon, Mr McGuiness said that he had spoken to sources very close to the Unionist leadership about helping them.
However he said that he is convinced that the Ulster Unionist party never had "any intentions in fighting in the elections".
He said that unionists like Ian Paisley have now effectively won a victory.
