Patriot battery shoots down incoming missile

A Patriot missile defence battery shot down a missile fired at Kuwait from southern Iraq today, officials said.

No debris was reported to have fallen on residential areas of the city.

Iraq fired several ballistic missiles across the border last week, at least one of which was shot down by a Patriot missile defence system.

None of those Iraqi missiles caused any damage or casualties.

A Kuwait military spokesman told Kuwait TV a missile launched from southern Iraq was intercepted at 8.35am Irish time and destroyed “outside residential areas”.
