Lawrence Dallaglio believes England have their best-ever chance of clinching the Grand Slam when they face Ireland in Sunday’s Dublin decider.

Two years ago Dallaglio missed the latest of England’s final hurdle failures at Lansdowne Road because of the knee injury which threatened his career.

But the 31-year-old back-row forward is ready to make amends by consigning that defeat – and the previous recent final showdown setbacks against Wales and Scotland – to history.

The Wasps skipper said: “Each occasion the reasons for defeat have been different.

Against Wales we gave away a lot of penalties in the match and allowed Neil Jenkins his opportunity.
