Nobel winner arrested in White House demo

A Nobel Peace Prize winner from Northern Ireland was arrested during an anti-war protest outside the White House in Washington.

Mairead Corrigan-Maguire, co-founder of the Peace People, was arrested along with fellow Nobel laureate Jody Williams and two bishops during a prayer vigil in the US capital.

She was among 60 people handcuffed and detained after crossing a picket line at Lafayette Park opposite the White House.

Before her arrest Ms Corrigan-Maguire had planned to protest outside the White House until Good Friday.
