McGuinness optimistic about North talks

Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness has expressed optimism about ongoing talks aimed at restoring the North's suspended political institutions.

"I think we've made steady progress over the course of recent months and, even as we speak, progress is being made on the issue of policing and indeed on the issue of demilitarisation," Mr McGuinness said yesterday.

He also said that British Prime Minister Tony Blair was still focused on the Irish situation despite the continuing US/British war against Iraq.
