Cowan: Ireland working to restore primacy of UN
27/03/2003 - 16:09:39The Minister for Foreign Affairs says Ireland will work to restore the primacy of the United Nations in the aftermath of the war on Iraq.
Brian Cowen has held talks in Geneva with the UN Commissioners for Human Rights, and refugees, as well as with the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Cowen says Ireland is keen to play its part.
"What we are doing here is positioning Ireland as being supportive of every initiative that the UN is trying to take, both in relation to the immediate humanitarian situation in relation to making sure that the human rights agenda is one that is addressed," he said.
