Celine makes slip-on slip-up at Vegas debut
There’s no business like shoe business, Celine Dion has discovered in her latest, all-singing all-dancing spectacular.
The singing superstar kicked off a three-year residency at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas on Tuesday night but not everything went off without a hitch.
The My Heart Will Go On chart-topper lost a pair of shoes backstage during one of her five hasty costume changes during the premiere opening night and was forced to turn up on stage barefoot.
Dion pleaded with the sell-out 4,000 crowd: “Has anyone got a spare pair? I am size 8.”
Fortunately for Dion, a backstage hand scrambled to give her a pair of her shoes and the stage spectacular continued.
Dion is being paid a reported $100m for the 600 concert dates over the next three years.
The gambling mecca even purpose built the Canadian singer a new venue at the cost of $95m.
Dion admitted: “I do not try and worry about the numbers, even though they are getting higher. I leave that side to Rene.”
Her husband Rene Angelil and Dion’s parents were in the audience along with Barry Manilow, N’Sync’s Lance Bass and Jane Seymour.
Dion is now an even higher flyer thanks to the brains behind Cirque du Soleil.
The Canadian chanteuse is hoisted 100 feet into the air by wires and pulleys during her the Caesar’s Palace extravaganza, which is entitled A New Day.
Franco Dragone, who also directs Mystere and Eau in the gambling capital of the world, convinced Dion to overcome her fear of heights for the spectacular finale at Caesar’s Palace.
Dion admitted: “I was a little reluctant when Franco first told me about his idea but it looks so good that I had to try it. Now I will be doing it every night.”
Dion did have to change her appearance for the stunt.
The singer had her long locks chopped off: “I didn’t want my hair going in my face or getting caught in the wires, so I think I am safer like this.”
