Tony Grant gained sweet revenge on holders Dundalk to put Shamrock Rovers into the third round of the FAI Cup.

Dundalk beat Rovers 4-0 in last season's semi-final, but there was to be no repeat in this rousing second round replay at Tolka Park.

Noel Hunt gave Rovers a deserved lead on 61 minutes when heading home a Shane Robinson cross from the right.

But Martin Reilly fired Dundalk level two minute from time to force extra-time.

Grant then struck for the winner on 109 minutes when miskicking to the net from a Graham O'Keeffe cross.

Both sides finished with ten men when Rovers' Stephen McGuinness and Bryan McCrystal of Dundalk were sent off following an off-the-ball scuffle in the 116th minute.
