Pop Idol flop didn't realise she had to sing

Pop Idol's Caroline Buckley says she didn't realise she would have to sing when she turned up to audition.

Pop Idol's Caroline Buckley says she didn't realise she would have to sing when she turned up to audition.

The contestant admits she thought she was auditioning for a TV presenter job.

She left judges in stitches with her rendition of YMCA by Village People.

Caroline says she decided to sing YMCA because it was the only song she knew the words for.

She said: "I've never sung in my life before so when I turned up to the auditions I was in for a bit of a shock.

"I decided to give it a go anyway just for a laugh. I couldn't believe it when they asked me to come back for the second audition. I think they thought my performance lightened up the day and made the judges laugh.

"I had a couple of days to practice for the next audition but unfortunately not enough time to learn to sing."

Caroline says she doesn't think the judges are too harsh.

"The level of competition is so high I think they have to be very harsh. Some of the contestants just aren't prepared to take criticism. They build themselves up and take it personally. Fortunately the judges were nice to me."

Caroline's audition is featured in the new Pop Idol - Raw Talent video out today.

It include footage from the best and worst auditions as well as the judges' most poisonous put-downs.
