Navan foot-and-mouth tests negative

Farmers in Co. Meath can breath a sigh of relief this morning after preliminary test results on a suspect sheep showed no sign of foot-and-mouth disease.

The Department of Agriculture confirmed last night that the initial results came back negative.

The alarm was raised last week when sheep brought to the Country Meats plant in Navan displayed possible signs of the disease.

Definitive test results are not expected until Tuesday at the earliest.
