Ahern 'commands greater public confidence than Kenny'

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern commands a greater degree of public confidence than his potential successor Enda Kenny, according to the opinion poll figures published this morning.

The Irish Examiner/Lansdowne poll examined the views of voters in relation to both men's abilities in a range of areas.

Mr Kenny received a higher rating in the area of trustworthiness, but Mr Ahern came out top in the six other areas, including ability to do the job of Taoiseach, ability to guide the economy and ability to make hard decisions.

Elsewhere, the poll has also found that crime and the cost of living will be among the main election issues, particularly among younger voters, along with house prices and childcare.
