China reports seven new SARS deaths

China today reported seven new SARS deaths and 163 more cases on the mainland.

Four of the fatalities were reported in Beijing, raising the Chinese capital’s death toll to 100, the Health Ministry said. Beijing reported 69 new cases, the ministry said.

The new numbers bring the mainland’s total number of infections to 4,125. The death toll from severe acute respiratory syndrome in China now stands at 197.

Chinese schools are to stay shut for another two weeks according to reports today.
